Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines key terms, conditions, insurance information, applicable charges, and your responsibilities during the rental period. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will be the authoritative document.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To rent a vehicle from Ripley, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with possible extra fees for drivers under 25. You need a valid driving license suitable for the vehicle category, held for the minimum duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additionally, you must present valid identification and proof of your current address, along with payment information and a security deposit. Be prepared to meet any other requirements specified in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payments
- Reservations for car hire can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Dartford office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and a security deposit are generally payable upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with payments processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, please conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage right away. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed by both parties. It is your responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was collected, allowing only for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged as necessary. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as at pickup; otherwise, refueling charges will apply. If you anticipate returning the vehicle late, please notify us as soon as possible, as late returns may incur extra fees. You will also be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or additional charges that occur during your rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals from Ripley include basic third-party insurance. The specifics of coverage and excess amounts can be found in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to lower your financial liability. We suggest reviewing these options thoroughly. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless covered by extra insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms will remain your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited uses of the rental vehicle:
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities or purposes. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or any other risky maneuvers. Transporting hazardous materials is strictly prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs is forbidden. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purpose and within specified passenger and weight limits. Operating the vehicle outside designated geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Ripley Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our maximum liability for any claim will not exceed the rental amount paid in the prior 12 months. This does not affect our liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts.
Terms Updates
Ripley reserves the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon being posted on our website. Your ongoing use of our services confirms your acceptance of the revised Terms.
