Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals will be governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines important terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations for the rental period. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Rental Requirements for Vehicles
- To rent a vehicle from Ripley, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type, with possible extra charges for drivers under 25. You are required to possess a valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category, held for the duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of your current address must be provided, along with appropriate payment details and a security deposit. Please refer to the Rental Agreement for any further requirements.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be made on our website, via phone, or directly at our Dartford location. To confirm your booking, a deposit may be necessary. Full payment, along with a security deposit, is usually collected at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, ensuring secure transactions through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed to document this. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same state as when it was collected, accounting only for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged appropriately. The vehicle should also be returned with the same fuel level as received; refueling fees will apply if it is returned with less fuel. Late returns may result in additional charges, so please inform us right away if you expect to return the vehicle later than agreed. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. You will find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to help limit your financial liability. We suggest reviewing these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless additional coverage is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise details, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rented Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities. This includes racing, off-roading, or other potentially dangerous pursuits. Transporting hazardous materials or sub-letting to unauthorized individuals is prohibited. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, users should not exceed passenger or weight limits, nor drive outside designated geographical areas without proper approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Ripley Car Hire disclaims responsibility for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that may arise from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is limited to the rental amount paid within the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to cases of death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are regulated by English and Welsh law. Any disputes will be handled exclusively by the courts of England and Wales.

Ripley reserves the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect once posted on our website, and continued use indicates acceptance of the revisions.
